The Iron Dominion is a dwarven kingdom in central Omelon.
Symbols
The main coat of arms of the Iron Dominion, as well as the royal banners, depicts a white war axe on a red and gray background.
The red and gray national colors represent the blood shed by the dwarves and the iron found beneath the mountains.
Territory
The Iron Dominion encompasses the isthmus that connects the two sides of Omelon. It consists of mountains (the Severed Mountains and Govarq Tops) and hilly plains.
History
Dwarves have lived in the lands they call the Iron Mountains for time immemorial. The dwarves lived in various clans in the mountains and hills.
The clans were eventually brought together to battle a Duergar army that attacked the dwarven mines in the Upperdark. After the united clans repelled the Duergar, they remained loosely united and have a "Gathering of Clans" annually at Midsummer.
Eventually, this loose federation proved to be more beneficial than remaining independent and the clans united under a king, King Konrad Bronzeaxe.
The Shadow Tyrant's Reign
During the terrible reign of the Shadow Tyrant many dwarfs turned to the depths of their caves for safety. Little did they know that the undead crawled beneath the earth as well as on top of it.
The Greatholds were connected by tunnels to prevent the need for overland travel, but those tunnels proved to be dangerous. While the dwarves had nearly forgotten about the Duergar, the Duergar had not forgotten them. The Duergar carefully crafted tunnels which allowed the undead hordes access to the tunnels connecting the Greatholds and even funneled the Underdark's own undead creatures toward the dwarves.
The Morning Crusade
Hard hit as they were, the Dwarfs played a major role in the downfall of the Shadow Tyrant. Nearly 40% of the Morning Crusade was made up of dwarfs and 90% of their weapons and armor were dwarven-made. The forges of Tharnduhn turned out massive quantities of swords, hammers, axes, and mail.
